Common Questions
Answers to questions we hear often about watch repair and our approach.
How long does a typical repair take?
The timeframe depends on the work required. Emergency crown repairs typically need three to five working days, while a full mechanical service takes longer, often two to three weeks, to allow proper cleaning, reassembly, and regulation. We provide an estimate after initial assessment and update you if the timeline changes.
What happens during a full mechanical service?
The movement is removed from the case and completely disassembled. Each component is cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, inspected for wear, and any fatigued parts are replaced. The movement is then reassembled with fresh lubrication, regulated across multiple positions, and tested for accuracy over several days before being returned to the case.
How often should I have my watch serviced?
Mechanical watches generally benefit from service every four to six years, though this varies based on the movement, usage patterns, and storage conditions. If your watch is losing time significantly, has difficulty winding, or stops running, it may be time for service regardless of the interval since the last one.
Can you work on vintage watches?
Yes, we handle vintage pieces, though approach them with particular care. Sourcing period-appropriate parts can take time, and we discuss any concerns about originality or value before proceeding with work that might affect those aspects.
What is your approach to water resistance?
After any service involving case opening, we test water resistance and replace gaskets as needed. However, we recommend having water resistance tested annually if you wear the watch in wet conditions, as gaskets deteriorate over time even without service.
How do you handle information about my watch?
Details about your watch and service are kept private and used only for the work at hand and future service reference. We do not share information about watches in our care, and take reasonable steps to protect both physical watches and related data.
