Caring for Timepieces with Attention
Our approach combines traditional watchmaking methods with thoughtful consideration for each piece that comes through our workshop.
Return HomeOur Story
meridiop began in Kuala Lumpur in January 2018, founded on the understanding that mechanical watches benefit from patient, methodical care. The name reflects our approach: owls are known for careful observation, while a meridian marks a point of reference, both qualities we value in watch repair.
The workshop started modestly, with a focus on straightforward repairs and maintenance for local collectors and daily wearers. Over time, we have developed our capabilities, adding equipment and refining techniques while maintaining the same fundamental approach of treating each watch according to its needs rather than applying uniform procedures.
Our philosophy centres on understanding what a watch requires rather than assuming one method suits all situations. A vintage piece may need different handling than a modern sports watch, and we adjust our approach accordingly. This means taking time to assess condition, explaining findings clearly, and discussing options before beginning work.
We recognise that watches often carry meaning beyond their mechanical function, whether as inherited pieces, markers of personal milestones, or simply reliable daily companions. This awareness shapes how we handle each timepiece and communicate with its owner throughout the service process.
Today, meridiop continues to operate from the same location on Jalan Sultan Ismail, serving watch owners across Kuala Lumpur and beyond. We have maintained our focus on mechanical timepieces, finding satisfaction in the challenge of keeping these intricate mechanisms running well.

Our Standards
The principles that guide our approach to watch repair and customer service.
Thorough Assessment
Each watch receives a careful initial examination to identify all issues, not just the most obvious ones. We document findings and discuss them before proceeding with work.
Appropriate Methods
We select techniques and tools suited to each specific repair, respecting the watch's age, construction, and condition rather than applying one-size-fits-all approaches.
Proper Equipment
Our workshop maintains precision measuring instruments, ultrasonic cleaning systems, and watchmaker's tools appropriate for the work we undertake, kept in good condition.
Complete Documentation
Work performed is recorded, including parts replaced, adjustments made, and observations about the watch's condition for reference in future servicing.
Clear Communication
We explain findings and options in straightforward language, update you about any changes during service, and answer questions about the work being done.
Privacy Respect
Information about watches in our care remains private, used only for service purposes and future reference. We take reasonable steps to protect both watches and related data.
What Guides Our Work
Patience in Process
Mechanical watch repair cannot be rushed without compromising outcomes. We allocate appropriate time for each stage of service, from disassembly through cleaning, replacement of worn components, reassembly, lubrication, and multi-day regulation. This measured pace produces more reliable results than hurried work.
Respect for Craftsmanship
Each watch represents the work of designers, engineers, and makers who created something meant to function well over time. We approach repairs with awareness of this craftsmanship, whether the watch is a simple manual-wind piece or a complex automatic movement.
Honest Assessment
Not every watch requires extensive service, and sometimes repair costs exceed the watch's value or sentimental importance. We provide straightforward assessments about what is needed and what might be optional, allowing you to make informed decisions.
Continuous Learning
Watch mechanisms vary widely in design and construction. We maintain technical resources, study unfamiliar movements before working on them, and consult with specialists when appropriate rather than proceeding without proper understanding.
